Davis Dog Owners Group (DDOG) is a soon-to-be nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation for public and charitable purposes.

Our primary objectives are:

  1. to educate the public about the responsibilities of dog ownership and recreation;
  2. to work with local government, agencies, businesses and other interested groups to increase the quality and number of areas where dogs, dog owners and other members of the public may train and recreate freely both on- and off-leash;
  3. to promote responsible dog ownership and the benefits of dogs in society.

We are an all-volunteer group of Davis and central valley residents who support responsible dog ownership and off-leash recreation. Currently, Davis is home to an estimated 4,728 dogs in 8,151 dog-owning households (based on 2006 US Census Bureau figures and national percentages), as well as the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Yet Davis dog owners have access to just two fenced off-leash recreation areas. Our primary dog park, Toad Hollow, is only available during daylight hours and in good weather. We are committed to increasing opportunities for off-leash recreation for people and their dogs while promoting safe, respectful and responsible dog ownership. We work together as Davis Dog Owners' Group, using our own time and money, because our experiences with off-leash recreation have been so positive for ourselves, our dogs and in interactions with other community members.

We encourage the community to share with us dog-relevant issues and gratefully accept tax-deductible donations. Contact us through davisdogpark@yahoo.com, at P.O. Box 4105, Davis, CA 95617, or join our list server at davisdogpark-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to stay abreast of current issues concerning dog ownership in the Davis area.
